The identity of private museum, the only one in Italy entirely private, ensures that the variety of collections of MAGI is closely linked to the collector’s personality. In over forty years of passion and, most of all, curiosity for art, Giulio Bargellini acquired over 2000 works, that he purchased or were given by the artists. To these have been added works granted in storage at the museum by artists, institutions and collectors.
In the construction of this considerable corpus came into play different factors: from the personal relationship with the artists to the fascination for a particular historical moment, from the opportunity of an important purchase to the willingness to support projects of innovative research.
